Zach's Two Month Stats

This update is for grandma's who are waiting with baited breath to see how Zachary is shaping up.

Here are the stats from his appointment today:

Weight: 12lbs even (putting him in the 50th percentile)
Height: 23.5" (79th percentile)
Head: 38cm (22nd percentile)

True story, the whole time that he was in me, his head would measure small, his stomach would measure right on time and his legs would measure long.  Apparently he is keeping up that trend.

Other fun things about our little man...he might be turning into a red head...which is kind of a surprise but not an unwelcome surprise for me.  I've always wanted a little red head.  Check out his eyebrows.  They are growing in and being red, they make his blue eyes really stand out.

His second self-y!!  What a funny boy!
July232013 053

He can also defy gravity.  Yeah...my baby is pretty much the best baby.

Zach's Big Boy Bath

Zach is finally big enough that he doesn't fit in the sink! So we took out the bathtub that his sweet Aunt Lisa bought him...wait...she might technically be his great Aunt Lisa since I call her Aunt Lisa...even though she is an honorary Aunt.

ANYWAY, we pulled out his little baby bath seat and he loves it!!  He loves baths and so this is probably his favorite seat in the house.

July232013 033

Bath time comes with a head massage!!  That is one of his favorite things...I get that a lot when I rub boys heads.
July232013 035

Oh, I hope you like "modesty duck".  I don't believe in naked babies on the internet.  Plus, having a little warm towel keeps me free from "spray" and it keeps him feeling comfortable with the temperature. Win/win.
July232013 037

I even got a little smile on camera!  What a little sweetheart!

Baby's Third Wedding Reception

It is wedding season!!  And in my world, that also means that it is time to have Bangkok reunions!  Whenever a friend from Thailand gets married, Aaron and I try to get to it.  This wedding however was in Sweden....so....we didn't make it out.

BUT there was a reception in Draper and so we were able to make it out to that.

The reception was for Majken and her husband Aaron!  Remember this picture from the last wedding?
July42013 002

Yeah, this was them coming to Utah for their reception in a week after they had already been married for about a month.

Unfortunately with a new baby...I don't get a lot of time to wander around and get pictures taken.  Not to mention I'm way to busy talking to people.  Which was a shame because Majken had the prettiest dress that I saw all summer and she looked absolutely GORGEOUS!

These were the only pictures that I was able to get.  It is Majken's brother Bryce holding Zach...only pictures....so sad.

July232013 030

July232013 032

But the party was a ton of fun and we were able to see a lot of lovely people.  I absolutely love it when there are weddings to go to during the summer.  And, as always, Mr. Man was very cooperative.

Honorary Scout

This wasn't his first time going to scouts, but it was the time that I took the most pictures of him at scouts.  The first time, I also didn't get any pictures on my phone...just Aaron's.  I sent it to Grandparents so at least they got to see.

Since Aaron and I are in Webelos scouts, our little man gets to come too.  We were working outside today and we thought that it would be a perfect time for Zach to get some Vitamin D.  It looks like he enjoyed soaking up some sun.

July232013 008

Can you guess what we were working on with the scouts?  Guess....I dare you...guess...
July232013 013

It was knots!  I can't believe that you didn't guess that!!  (Oh...check out the ghetto sewn on patch job on Aaron's numbers...yeah...I did that myself.  We've taken the off and used a fabric adhesive.)
July232013 014

We put the boys to work making a dining fly for us.  They liked to joke that it was because Aaron and I didn't have anywhere to live anymore.
July232013 017

When we put the tarp on, we needed someone to hold up the other end of the rope.  We used to have a tree that was next to a light pole that we would use...but alas, it was cut down because its roots were going into the pipes.
July232013 019

Once Mr. Man woke up, he wanted to know why he wasn't being held....so I had to hop on that and walk him around. (And at that moment, the hospital called and wanted to give me a survey for my opinion on how surgery went.)  So I wondered a ways from the boys so I could walk little man back to sleep and talk.
July232013 023

When I got back, the dining fly was up and Aaron was telling them WHAT'S WHAT!!  Just kidding, he was talking to them about the different knots and other ways to use them and other shelters they can build while camping.

And I told them about the night when my brother, as a Boy Scout, had to sleep in the dining fly with the fire going because it had started to rain freezing cold and he needed a warmer, dryer place to be.
July232013 028

I'm so excited for Mr. Man to be old enough to be in scouts.  We are going to have so much fun with him camping and exploring and hiking and earning beads and activity pins.  Until then, we will live vicariously through other people's children.

Baby's Second Wedding Reception and First Temple Trip

A friend from Thailand got married on the 3rd and it was so fun getting to go to her reception.  I got to see some friends that I don't get to see that often and they got to meet Zach.

Like Majken who lives in Norway with her new husband.
July42013 002

I wish it wasn't blurry because she has an amazing smile!
July42013 005

Cameron Gygi!!  He lives in Utah but south of me so we don't get to meet up much.
July42013 008

July42013 009

Here is a group of us!  Cameron, Natalya, Me (I've forgiven myself for being that large...I had just had a baby and surgery), and ALYA LOUISE!!!!  She came with her husband from California (near where Aaron's parents live...we will have to look her up when we are in the area next).
July42013 010

July42013 019

Two days later was a temple trip with Zach! Well, he isn't allowed IN the temple yet since he isn't nearly old enough (12 years old) but he got to visit temple square with us and some friends of mine from Thailand.

I wish that I had taken more pictures.  We got to hang out with Ayla and her husband!  It was really fun showing them temple square and the conference center.  These places were especially cool for Ayla, who is a landscape architect.  The conference center has a mini forest on the top of the building.  And the new city center mall has a river with plant life running through the center of it.

These are the only pictures we have of the day.  Cameron took them them...or maybe this camera was Natalya or Alya...I can't remember.  But it is my little eternal family in front of the temple!  It was almost 4 years ago to this day that Aaron and I were married at this very place.
July232013 006

July232013 007

It was really nice to get a chance to go down to Salt Lake for the day and see the sites with our little man.

Everyone's Favorite Bladder: Gall Bladder Surgery

I know that you all have been DYING to hear the whole story about my fun post-pregnancy surgery...because I'm such a drama queen.

While I was pregnant, I would get this burning chest and back pain. It was terrible. Sometimes it would be hard to breath for awhile. I assumed that it was part of being pregnant. I mean, don't women complain about how hard it is all the time?

After I had Zach, the "episodes"  increased to once every night instead of once ever couple weeks. I was waking up once a night in terrible pain that lasted for at least 20 minutes.

I tried looking it up online to figure out what this crazy pain could be. The only thing I could find that made sense to me was a pinched nerve connected to a rib. I told myself at some point to make a plan to see a chiropractor.

Wednesday the 12th, I woke up at 1:00am in terrible pain. The pain was so intense that it was hard to breath. I couldn't fill up my lungs because my chest hurt too bad. This went on for 20 minutes and wasn't letting up. I was starting to panic...you know...because I like to be able to breath normally. It was worse than labor. I woke up Aaron because I was getting into the shower to "ease my muscles" and he needed to be awake in case Zach needed something ( Aaron doesn't wake up to crying babies).

Aaron followed me into the bathroom and would freak out when he stopped hearing me gasping for air. He assumed I had stopped breathing. After another 20 minutes of the pain, I told Aaron I had to go to the emergency room...because, no joke, I felt like I was dying. He packed us up Zach and we drove over.

I walked into the hospital and told them I couldn't breathe. They took my vitals and my blood pressure was 160/100. I don't know if you know about blood pressure but...that's bad. They asked if I had recently given birth. That's when Aaron came in with Zach and I said 2 and a half weeks ago.

Immediately they moved me to a room. With blood pressure like that, they thought it was eclampsia and that I was about to have a seizure.

I wasn't worried about that because I knew it was my back. I mean, it couldn't be a heart attack even though it was feeling like what I imagine a heart attack would feel like.

The doctor came in and started asking me some questions about the pain. I explained how I thought that it was my back and he said,"It sounds like your gall bladder." That made no sense to me at all. And I told him that. I tried to explain how the pain was all in my chest and upper back. I must have thrown my back out.

He had me roll over onto my back and he poked me in different places on my abdomen, all of which didn't hurt. Then...he poked over my gall bladder and I yelled and jolted off the bed. And he said,"Did that one hurt?" Yes...snarky doctor man. That one hurt.

I was wheeled into ultrasound so they could see if they could find gall stones. It took them about a minute to confirm I was full of little stones. I was hoping that "little" meant, easier...it does not.  "Little" means that it is easier for them to scoot out of my gall bladder and clog other tubes inside me and cause really horrible damage to my liver and pancreas.   The ultrasound technician told me that I would most likely have to have surgery soon or risk an emergency surgery down the line.  Then he reassured me that it would be much easier than having a baby.  He didn't know that for me, that meant faster than 4 days and 19 hours.

The doctor explained to me that during pregnancy, especially for women with short torsos, the gall bladder can't fully empty and the bile hardens into stones.  Excellent.

When we left the emergency room, I messaged my mom to let her know what was happening...since I was pretty sure that surgery and a 3 week old baby would be a little much for me to handle on my own.

Consultation with a surgeon the next day.  He told me that since I had just had a baby, the laproscopic procedure might not happen. There was a chance they would have to cut me all the way open.  After that I was a bit scared. He told me that if all went well, it would be 7-10 days before I would be getting back to normal...a month if it didn't go well.

I picked the following Monday for the procedure.

I was so lucky that my mom was able to fly back out to Utah to help me. Aaron used all his time off when Zach was born so he couldn't stay home with me and I don't think I know anyone in Utah who could have taken care of Zach and I for a whole week 24/7.

Monday I went in for surgery and Aaron, Zach, and my mom came to the hospital with me.

I got to nurse Zach one last time before they wheeled me in for surgery. The anesthealagist said something really comforting before they took me back. He looked at who my surgeon was and said,"Awesome. This should only take 30 minutes." I like to hear other people who work with the surgeon have faith in him because that man prepared me for the worst ahead of time.
As promised, I was in and out in 30 minutes. As I came to, I was really confused. My eyes were too tired to open and people were talking around me. I realized was in a hospital and being wheeled somewhere. I had movie visions of people being rushed through the emergency room. I asked,"What happened?" And they said,"You just had surgery." That scared me even more! "Why?" I almost cried. "We just took your gallbladder out." ...oh...then I remembered. This wasn't an emergency. My family was waiting for me.

My mom came into recovery first. "Where is Zach?", was my first question. Aaron had planned to go back to work so my mom coming in without my son was a little distressing. But Aaron had stayed and was talking to the doctor with Zach. Everything had gone perfectly.

My mother asked how long it would be before I could hold Zach on my own... 7 days...that was going to be a tough one.

Once they got my pain under control and I could breath on my own (I was kindly bad at that at first) they let me go home.

And that is the picture-less story of when I decided to add some drama to my post pregnancy life.

Baby's First 4th of July

Normally my 4th of July posts are kind of a big deal. We have had a party here for the passed three years. (2011) (2012)

But this year, a bunch of our friends moved away.  My sister and her husband moved away.  Some of our friends were gone on vacation and us?  Well...I had just had surgery so...this was our holiday.

Yup...snuggling in bed watching Psych on Netflix.  This kid has turned us into party animals for sure.

Family Walk: Take Two

Well, we all know how walk number one went...so we decided since it had been a month, to give it another go.  We were also looking at different parks to pick out which one we would want to use for our Baby Blessing After Party.

So we loaded up little man into his car seat/stroller combo and headed out.  He seems a little worried when Aaron is driving.

By the time I started driving though....he has decided...

...that he was sick of this stupid car seat and not being snuggled.

So I wrapped him up in the Moby and he immediately settled down for a little nap.

Maybe in a month, we'll try him in the stroller again, but I guess for now, he likes hikes when he can be snuggled.  I'm okay with that.
