San Diego Trip: To the Ocean

Aaron and I ALWAYS travel over the summer. Whether it is a crazy fast trip to New York with friends, a trip down Mexico way, or for a beautiful wedding, we ALWAYS find our way out of Utah for some sight seeing.

Well, this summer we are going to be a little busy and our plans might be a little up in the air, so we decided that a "Babymoon" was in order.

We knew that we wanted to head to somewhere warmer and somewhere with a beach....so San Diego it was! (Actually...most specifically Oceanside).

The flight and trip out there was uneventful and we landed in John Wayne Airport and were instantly IN LOVE with the fact that we could feel the sun on our skin.  It has been a long cold winter in Utah. (Our secret hope was that when we get home, all of the snow that had been sitting on our lawn for MONTHS would be gone).

Howdy Partner!  Wait...wrong state...
We grabbed our retail car and started driving southwest to Oceanside.  And this car trip took a turn for the ADD.  While we were driving, we could choose between two roads, one of which was the longer but more scenic Route One (also known as the Pacific Coast Highway).  I knew that this road took you along the coast through all of the coastal towns.

That's how we ended up stopping for food in Dana Point.  This funky little Denny's seemed like a good place to park ourselves.

While we were there, we noticed a TON of advertisements for a Whale Festival.  I'm still completely in LOVE with my smart phone and so I googled what was going on in this town.

It gave me a list of events that were happening that day.  Most of them where over but it directed us to a museum called the Ocean Institute.  So after we finished eating, we headed over to the Dana Point Harbor Beach.

The Ocean Institute was still opened but only for another hour and it was like, $10 a person to get in, so we decided to just watch around the Pier and see what we could see.  Since we were still in our plane clothes and shoes, we didn't think that it would be a great idea to go down to the water but it was very relaxing to sit on the wave break and enjoy the ocean spray.  It has seriously been a long hard winter.

People wanted to see more pregnant pictures of me....so...this trip is going to be great for them because we took TONS of pictures.

The Dana Point Harbor behind us.  Something so beautiful about white boats on the blue water.

Taking a nap in the sun....seriously...it feels so good to feel the sun and wind on my skin.

While we were leaving the harbor, we found some weird looking birds...so of course I had to stop and take pictures of them.  Look at those weird red eyes!

The weirdest thing to me was the way that they used their legs to swim.  Their legs were in the back of their body instead of in the middle of their bodies like ducks....so weird.

And that was Day One.  After this adventure we got in the car and drove to Oceanside to our sleeping accommodation.  We went grocery shopping to load up our fridge and then snuggled watching tv and eating bowls of cereal.
